Cricket Player

I want to be one
Who This Career is For?
Cricketers need to be athletic, naturally gifted people who are exceptionally talented in at least one of the three aspects of the game of cricket. A career as a cricketer is for somebody who is willing to put in a lot of hard work before tasting success. They must be willing to sacrifice their education and even spending time with family if they want to get noticed by scouts and selectors. A career in cricketing is only for those who can deal with pressure and live off a low income or have family support while they are still in their early days. Cricketers need to be willing to travel all over the country and the world for tours and matches.
Want to know more about it?
Cricket players are individuals who play the sport of cricket for a living. They may be a part of a club team, city team, state team, county team, under-17 national team, under-19 national team, under-21 national team, and national team, or even a franchise team. Most cricket players aspire to play international cricket for their national team. There are three major formats of international cricket, namely test matches, one day international (ODI) matches and T20 international matches. In domestic cricket, there are first class, list A and T20 matches.

There are various paths one can take as a cricket player. Some players tend to specialize in a particular format of the game. For example, many people will focus on T20 cricket, and they will join a particular T20 league. In India, the best T20 players play for clubs in the Indian Premier League, and may even get selected for India’s T20 International team. Likewise, in other countries, one may play for a team they get selected in. International cricketers are generally the most well-paid all over the world.

Players are generally contracted by a governing board. In India, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is responsible for arranging international cricket matches. Players are paid by their respective governing boards and they are generally required to adhere to a certain code of conduct that is set by the board. In some countries, cricket players are allowed to seek private sponsorships under certain limitations. In other countries, however, only the board can find sponsors for players.
What are Salary Prospects?
If you make it big, there is tremendous earning potential as a cricketer. In recent times, a large amount of money has been put into the game and even players who play domestic cricket can earn significant sums of money if they participate in the various T20 tournaments held around the world, such as IPL in India and Big Bash in Australia. In England, top cricket players earn anywhere between £250000 to £400000. Meanwhile, in India, top cricketers are paid Rs. 1 Crore by the BBCI. Cricket players also earn additional money if they are signed on by T20 clubs to participate in domestic leagues. Most cricketers also earn significant amounts of money through sponsorships. However, first class cricket players do not earn as much as international players.
How is Life?
Life as a cricketer is seen as one of the most glamorous and lucrative lifestyles in the world, and this is often true. However, before one can make it on the big stage, a lot of hard work is required. This might mean spending a large amount of time away from family and loved ones. Long training sessions and traveling long distances are part and parcel of starting up as a cricket player. Life as an international

Cricketers get to travel the world for free and engage in a sport that they probably love to its very core. They get to do what they are best in front of tens of thousands of passionate fans. What other career path can offer the same?
Which Downsides are there in this career?
Life as a cricket player is perhaps not as glamorous as it is made out to be. In reality, players have to deal with a lot of pressure on any given day. During matches, they must consistently go against the odds and defeat their opponents. If they fail to do so, they might be subject to regular and open criticism by people and the media. They cannot enjoy the luxury of a private life, since everything they do is documented by the paparazzi.
How is Competition?
The level of competition in the world of cricket has increased drastically over the last few years, ever since more money has been made available to players. However, at the top level, there is always room for exceptional people. However, only the top thirty or so players in every country come into contention of making it into the final playing eleven in each team. Competition is extremely fierce, and one really has to stand out in terms of talent, determination and luck to make it.
Locations where this career is good?
Cricketing is a viable career option in the ten test match playing countries. These are India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, England and West Indies. Within India, you can get selected from any part of the country that is home to a first class cricket team. However, it is often easier to get noticed if you are from a bigger city. Hence, competition there can be more intense.
