A coach must also be a leader, and be able to motivate individuals. They must have excellent communication skills and be confident enough to produce a winning team. They must also be able to deal with pressure and be able to cope with loss.

Athletic coaches are found in many different areas of sports, such as High School sports, camps, professional teams etc. It is their job to find and recruit the best athletes to play on their side, to make a winning team.

Coaches will usually scout players by watching how they perform in games, and if they are impressed, they will approach them to play on their team. Coaches want to find the best talent. Usually they recruit high school students for college teams after they graduate.

After the coach has chosen the best players for their team, they will begin training these athletes and building a team rapport around them so that they have the best chances of winning. It is the coach’s job to assign players to specific positions in the game, and to decide who will play.

Another task a coach must perform is keeping their teams mentally and physically motivated. This should be done through mental and physical exercises. Coaches are also in charge of making sure that they have enough equipment and supplies, buildings are reserved for practices, and scheduling players.

If the coach teaches in a high school, then they must make sure that none of their players are failing any class, making them ineligible to play on a college team. Coaches usually have a large team to help them with their duties and tasks.

Coaches also evaluate performance of players and make sure that they are performing to their potential. They demonstrate how to play optimally, and adapt to the needs of the team. Coaches also communicate instructions clearly to their team.

Coaches also have to be able to recognize when a player is too tired to play, and must act quickly if their players suffer injuries. It is the job of the athletic coach to keep their players fit and healthy.

Coaches who are teaching high schools or junior high will require a Bachelor’s degree in education, sports education or sports science. A Masters degree is also favorable. Coaching a professional team will require a Masters degree.

The starting salary for a coach in the US at a University is $33,000 per annum. Those who teach high school students earn less than $10,000 per year; however they also get a regular salary for teaching. Professional coaches make approximately $800,000 every year.

In India, the starting salary for a coach ranges between Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000 per month in a good college or university. Professionally they can earn much more.
How is Life?

Firstly, a coach must deal with much abuse because of the decisions that they make. Moreover, the working conditions of a coach may be less than ideal with the different weather conditions that they may subjected too.

Being a coach is also a very stressful job as there is a lot of pressure to win the match. Furthermore, irregular long hours are a disadvantage of the job.
How is Competition?
In 2008, coaches and scouts held approximately 225,700 jobs in the United States. About half of this figure worked part time or had flexible schedules. The employment of coaches is expected to increase by 23% up till 2018. A large number of jobs in this career are expected to open up and thus competition is likely to increase.

Roughly 52% of the full time coaches worked in educational institutions, while 13% worked in amusement, gambling and recreational industries. Only 6% worked in the spectator sports industry.

Career Path
Taking up science with a special focus on biology at the school level and on physiology at graduation level will help. You should be aware of sports medicine, exercise physiology, biochemistry, physiotherapy, sports anthropometry, bio-mechanics, kinesiology and all kinds of training methods. To join a top school as a sports instructor you must have a professional diploma/degree in sports coaching and should have participated at national or international levels in your game of specialisation
